This policy explains what information SusuMate collects, how we use and share it, and the choices and rights you have.
Last updated: 5 July 2026SusuMate ("we", "us" or "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy applies to the SusuMate app and website and should be read together with our Terms & Conditions. By using SusuMate, you consent to the practices described here.
1. Information we collect
We collect information you give us and information generated as you use SusuMate:
- Account details — your name, mobile number, email and profile photo.
- Identity verification (KYC) — identification details our Payment Partners require to confirm who you are and to meet regulatory obligations.
- Group & transaction data — the groups you belong to, contributions, payouts, balances, votes and activity.
- Payment information — your Mobile Money number or bank account used for contributions and payouts. Card details are handled directly by our licensed Payment Partners; we do not store full card numbers.
- Device & usage data — device type, app version, log data and, with your permission, location.
- Contacts — if you allow it, we access your contacts only to help you invite people to a group. We do not upload your full address book for any other purpose.
2. How we use your information
- To operate your groups and process contributions and payouts;
- To verify your identity and prevent fraud, money laundering and abuse;
- To send you transaction alerts, reminders and important service messages;
- To provide customer support and resolve disputes;
- To improve and secure the app; and
- To meet our legal and regulatory obligations.
We will never sell or rent your personal information to third parties.
3. How we share information
We share information only as needed to run SusuMate:
- Payment Partners — licensed mobile money, bank and payment providers that process your contributions and payouts.
- Service providers — vetted partners who help us with hosting, messaging, analytics and support, under confidentiality obligations.
- Other group members — see "Group & campaign visibility" below.
- Regulators & law enforcement — where required by law or to protect against fraud.
- Business transfers — if SusuMate is involved in a merger or acquisition, information may transfer as part of that transaction.
4. Group & campaign visibility
SusuMate is built around shared saving, so some information is visible to others by design. Within a group, members can see the group balance, who has contributed, payout activity and votes. Admins can see member and contribution records for the groups they manage. Public campaigns are visible to anyone with the link, including the campaign story and amount raised. Only share information you are comfortable other members or supporters seeing.
5. How we protect your information
We use technical and organisational safeguards — including encryption in transit, access controls and secure infrastructure — to protect your personal information. No system is completely secure, so we also rely on you to keep your login details and device safe.
6. Data retention
We keep your information for as long as your account is active and as needed to provide the service. Because SusuMate handles financial transactions, we are required to retain certain records for a number of years after your account closes to comply with Bank of Ghana and anti-money-laundering rules.
7. Your rights & choices
- You can view and update most of your account details in the app;
- You can request a copy of your data or ask us to correct or delete it, subject to our legal retention duties;
- You can opt out of marketing messages at any time — essential service and transaction messages will still be sent;
- You can manage contacts and location permissions in your device settings.
8. Cookies
Our website uses cookies and similar technologies to keep the site working, remember your preferences and understand how the site is used. You can control cookies through your browser settings.
9. Children
SusuMate is intended for people aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the updated version here and, for material changes, give you notice. The "last updated" date above shows when it was last revised.
